NORMAN, Okla. – IUP men's golfers
Matt Cocorikis and
Michael Hoare were named 2017-18 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, announced Wednesday afternoon by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
The duo is part of a record number of 476 recipients for the GCAA, including 265 in Division I, 126 in Division II and 23 in the NAIA. Additionally, 62 honorees were added to the previously released Division III list.
Cocorikis has a cumulative grade point average of 3.61 as an accounting major. He led the Crimson Hawks with a 75.79 stroke average as a junior in 2017-18. He finished in the top 20 eight times in 10 events, including three top 10 finishes. He earned PING All-Atlantic Region and second team All-PSAC honors.
Hoare graduated with with a 3.85 cumulative GPA in finance. He was a second team All-PSAC selection as a senior, finishing third on the team with a 76.47 stroke average. He posted a pair of top 10 finishes in 10 total events. This is Hoare's second straight All-America Scholar honor.
This is the sixth straight year that IUP has had a golfer earn All-America Scholar recognition from the GCAA, including three consecutive years with two golfers. Hoare is the eighth IUP golfer to be named All-America Scholar twice.
All-America Scholar eligibility
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
