Crimson Hawks open 2021 season this weekend at Miller Stadium

INDIANA, Pa. – After a year off the field, the IUP women's lacrosse team returns to action in a few days with its 2021 season opening weekend at George P. Miller Stadium. The Crimson Hawks will host No. 11 Grand Valley State Friday before its conference opener against Slippery Rock Sunday. Both games are slated for noon starts. 

Spectators
IUP Athletics is allowing spectators at outdoor events this spring. Any fans visiting George P. Miller Stadium are asked to keep socially distant from each other, participating teams, student-athletes, school officials and other game day personnel. When not able to socially distant, please wear masks.

Last time out
This will be the first action in exactly one year for the Crimson Hawks. Their last game came on March 12, 2020, one day before the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference cancelled the remainder of its spring events. 

IUP finished 2020 with a 2-2 record, falling to Seton Hill 17-15 at home in what would be its finale. 

Notes
>> IUP's 2021 schedule is a largely divisional slate, with the Grand Valley State opener acting as the only non-conference game.
>> IUP and GVSU have met twice, both close wins by the Lakers - 14-12 in 2015 and 14-10 in 2019. 
>> IUP is 7-3 in its last 10 meetings with Slippery Rock, including a 6-game win streak from 2013 to 2017. 
>> The Crimson Hawks were picked third in the PSAC West preseason coaches poll, receiving one of the seven possible first place votes. 
>> This will be the third season at the helm for head coach Brenna Gallagher '16. She is 12-9 overall, including a 10-7 debut season in 2019 where she led IUP to the postseason.
>> IUP returns nine of its 11 scorers from last year's shortened season, including their top four goal scorers. 
>> Junior Chloe Borland finished among the national leaders last year with 5.25 points per game, posting team-highs of 12 goals, nine assists, and 21 points. She also had a team-high 25 draw controls. 
>> Senior goalie Lauren Piecknick returns in the net. She's played in 30 games with 20 starts in her career and has a 10.18 goals against average.
