INDIANA, Pa. -- The IUP men's golf team opens play at the 2023 PSAC Men's Golf Championship, beginning the three-round event on Friday, October 20 at Iron Valley Golf Club.
IUP has won the last four conference championships under the direction of head coach
Dan Braun, capturing six of the last seven overall. The Crimson Hawks boast a record 32 conference championships and three of the last four medalists.
Guillermo Salazar captured medalist honors at last year's tournament, carding a three-under 69 in the final round for a 217, winning the individual by one stroke against Gannon's Abe Holmes (218). The IUP lineup also features reigning PSAC Men's Golf Freshman of the Year
Alex Swinnerton and
Shaun Fedor, who both finished tied for third place at last year's Championship.
Action concludes on Sunday, October 22.

IUP NOTES
- IUP has won 12 of the last 16 PSAC titles dating back to the fall of 2007. The Crimson Hawks captured six straight championships from 2007-12, two more in 2016 and 2017, along with the last four titles from 2019-22.
- IUP has played a challenging fall schedule by design over the last few weeks. Most recently, the Crimson Hawks battled back with an outstanding final round at the Post Invitational on October 10.
- IUP carded a phenomenal team score of 277 in the victory at Post on October 10. Aidan LeBlanc dropped in the lowest score of his collegiate career with a five-under 66.
- IUP also has a pair of second-place team finishes this season in tournament action in the Glade Springs Kickoff and the Dr. Wally Edgell Invitational.
- Alex Swinnerton has two individual victories this fall for IUP, posting an even-par scoring average of 71.57 through five tournaments.
- Swinnerton won the Glade Springs Kickoff (211; -5) and posted first at the Dr. Wally Edgell Invitational (203; -13).
- Shaun Fedor has added three top-10 finishes over five tournaments for IUP this fall. The fifth-year has finished among the top 10 individuals in all four of his previous PSAC Championship tournament appearances.
- Fedor is a four-time all-conference selection for IUP and became only the only third golfer in PSAC history to win both Men's Golfer of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors in the same season in 2019-20.
- Guillermo Salazar, the reigning PSAC medalist from last year, has recorded a pair of top-five showings in the fall of 2023. Salazar was second overall behind Swinnerton at the Wally Edgell Invitational with a final score of 205 (-11).
- John Olsen has provided consistency this season for IUP with two tournaments of even-par in consecutive weeks, including at the King Invitational from September 25-26.
