INDIANA, Pa. -- The IUP men's golf team begins play in the NCAA DII Atlantic/East Region Championships, held May 9-11. Hosted by West Liberty, the event takes place at the Oglebay Jones Course in Wheeling, West Virginia.
IUP is the number two seed in the Atlantic Region, earning an at-large bid to the tournament.
The tournament field consists of 10 teams and four individuals from both the Atlantic and East regions. IUP begins the opening round on Thursday, May 9 at 11 a.m. and at 8:20 a.m. on Friday, May 10. Tee times for the third round on Saturday, May 11 will be based on team standings following the initial two rounds of the tournament.
IUP is paired with Post and Gannon on Thursday and Friday.
ABOUT THE REGIONAL
In order to compete in the NCAA East/Atlantic Regional Championship, teams must finish the regular season ranked as one of the 10 best teams in its region. The East Region is comprised of teams from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, Northeast-10 and East Coast Conference. The Atlantic Region includes teams from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, the Mountain East Conference and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Each conference champion receives an automatic berth. Also included in the field are the top four individuals whose team did not qualify.
The top five teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional will advance to the finals, May 21-25 at the Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge in Winter Garden, Florida. The finals will be hosted by Rollins College and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission.

>> IUP is making its record 27th straight NCAA regional championship appearance (28th straight qualification), dating back to 1997.
>> The Crimson Hawks are searching for their sixth regional title and first since 2014. They have won titles in 2005, 2008, 2009, 2013 and 2014.
>> IUP boasts three individual regional medalists since 2010, including Gavin Smith in 2010, Zack Kempa in 2013, and Kenny Sames in 2015.
>> IUP has finished second in the regional nine times and has earned selection to the Division II championships as a team 33 times (12 times since 1998).
