WHEELING, W.Va. — The IUP men's golf team had its opening round stopped with a few holes remaining after inclement weather moved through the area. The Crimson Hawks are currently sixth in the team standings and will finish the opening round tomorrow (April 10) at 7:30 a.m. before resuming play with round two.
IUP was one of nine teams to have its opening round called on Thursday at the par-71 Speidel Jones Course Oglebay. The Crimson Hawks are +14 as a team.
Cameron Gerue,
Guillermo Salazar and
Aidan LeBlanc were able to finish their opening rounds on Thursday.
Alex Swinnerton and
Shaun Fedor each have three holes remaining, completing 15 holes in the opening day of action.
While the team standings are incomplete after day one, Gannon leads the field with a team score at +5. The Golden Knights are led by Shaunak Rama and Michael Wareham, each with two-under par scores of 57 (15 holes) and 69, respectively.
Among the Hawks with a completed round, Gerue was consistently solid on Thursday in a tie for sixth overall. He carded an even-par 71 with 14 total pars, mixing in a pair of birdies at holes four and 10.
Salazar and LeBlanc each carded identical scores of 78 on Thursday. Salazar had the lone eagle of the round on hole eight sandwiched around a pair of double bogeys. LeBlanc had an up and down round, playing the front nine at -2 and the back nine at +9.
Swinnerton is tied for 17th through 15 holes with a 61. The round included four birdies and six bogeys before the stoppage in play. Fedor is tied for 46th through 15 holes with a 64.
