IUP Athletic Hall of Fame
Barry “Buck” Lippencott is regarded as the “total package,” and that is due in large part because he played multiple positions along the offensive line in his career.
His exceptional level of play was exemplified by the team’s PSAC West championships in 1964 and 1965.
Lippencott is the co-founder of the “Coal Bowl”, a tradition that enters its seventh year in 2015 and takes the football rivalry between IUP and California (Pa.) to another level. Barry and his brother, Bob, established football scholarships at their alma maters and donated a “Coal Pail” trophy that is presented to the winner of the game.
Lippencott graduated from IUP in 1967 with a degree in geography education. He served for 22 years on active duty and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. His assignments included tours with the Army Security Agency in Vietnam, Airfield Commander in Germany, and Program Manager for five classified programs in the Aviation field. He and his wife, Patricia, have two children, Lance (45) and Jil (41). He and his family reside in Liverpool, N.Y.
