IUP Athletic Hall of Fame
Many of the “field” events of Track and Field originated with the ancient Greeks, who valued strength, skill, and determination in their athletic competition. In our modern world, athletes like Eugene Dellemonache keep that spirit alive.
Dellemonache sported an impressive career while at IUP between 1986 and 1988 in the shot put and discus events, as part of the men’s Track and Field team. In 1986, he earned honors as PSAC State Champion in both shot put and discus, PSAC Championships Most Valuable Athlete, and NCAA Division II National Qualifier. The following year, he again became PSAC State Champion in shot put, NCAA Division II All-American in shot put, and set an IUP record in shot put of 57 feet, 1.25 inches that still stands today. His 1988 season saw a third PSAC State Champion ranking in shot put, a second honor as PSAC State Championship Most Valuable Field Athlete, and a fourth-place showing as an NCAA Division II All-American in shot put. He also found time to play nose tackle in 1988, lettering with the IUP football squad.
Today, Dellemonache teaches health and physical education in the Kiski Area School District in suburban Pittsburgh. He attended Sto-Rox High School, earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and sports science from IUP in 1989, and a master’s degree in sports science from IUP in 1990. He and his wife, Crystal, have a son, Dominic, and live in Leechburg, PA.
