IUP Athletic Hall of Fame
Scott Green was a standout for IUP both on the cross country trails and on the track, graduating in 1983 as a two-time All-American, team captain, and record holder.
He was a key member of a cross country squad that won the PSAC championship and finished fourth at the NCAA championships in 1982. The senior captain earned All-PSAC and All-American honors,  finishing 11th at the conference meet and 23rd at the Division II championships. Â
On the track, he shined in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs, setting a school record in the latter with a time of 30:09 in 1983, a mark that still stands 31 years later. He went on to to earn All-American honors in the event at that year’s NCAA meet.Â
After graduation, Green continued running. In 1990, he would set a course record at the Sarasota Herald Tribune 10k with a time of 30:42. In 1996, he was the first American finisher in the Gasparilla Distance Classic, and finished eighth overall. Green also finished second overall in the Pittsburgh Marathon in 1992.
Green currently works as a sales representative for New Balance. He and his wife, Sue, reside in McMurray, Pa.
