To hold one’s own on the volleyball court takes more courage and grit than might be perceived. Based on the honors earned during her career as a member of the IUP Women’s Volleyball Team, Brittany Torsell knows this to be true.
From 2002 to 2006, Torsell played middle hitter with the squad and racked up an impressive listing of accolades, including: being named to the first teams with the AVCA Atlantic Region and PSAC in 2003, 2004, and 2005; earning distinction as AVCA Freshman of the Year and PSAC Rookie of the Year in 2002, also the year IUP won the PSAC Championship; finishing her IUP career with first place all-time in leader “kills”; and ranking first in leader “blocks” in 2004 and 2005.
The native of Altoona, PA, attended Bishop Guilfoyle High School and eared a bachelor’s degree in nursing from IUP in 2006. Today, Torsell serves as a registered nurse. She and her husband, Vincent, live in Bellefonte, PA, with their son, Cameron.
