IUP Athletic Hall of Fame
Je’Mone Smith is one of several IUP alumni who joined the ranks of the National Football League (NFL). During his time at IUP, Smith amassed a total of 129 receptions, which is sixth all-time in program history, and 2,194 receiving yards, which is third all-time.
The two-year captain garnered several postseason awards, including first team All-PSAC West (twice), first team All-ECAC, and was voted by his teammates as the team’s Most Valuable Player.
After graduation, Smith was not done. He was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL as a free agent and later joined the Saskatchewan Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League. He also spent time in the Arena Football League with Las Vegan and Anaheim, where he won the MVP and an Iron Man awards.
Smith is married to Sheretha Smith and also has two children, Taylor Copeland and Lauren Smith. After earning his criminal justice degree at IUP, Smith worked his way to a master’s degrees in labor relations and human resources.
