IUP Athletic Hall of Fame
Before the days of aluminum bats in college baseball, Jack Flavin came to IUP as a pitcher with promise, and he did not disappoint. He would pick up four letters and an award from the NAIA during his career.
Â
On the field, Flavin was very difficult to score against. During the 1968 season, he finished the year with a 0.00 earned run average, which is the best in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference history. He also ranks on the top of the list for the PSAC in career ERA with a miniscule 1.36 ERA.
Â
After graduating in 1969, Flavin went on to pitch for the Lawrenceville Tigers semi-pro team, and helped win the Greater Pittsburgh League championship. He would then teach at the Diocese of Pittsburgh, and coach grade school basketball before retiring in 2002.
Â
Flavin married his wife Carolyn, and the two had a daughter, Jennifer. He currently resides in Pittsburgh.
